Animal & Dairy Science: Academic Programs: Course Syllabi

ADSC 2010 Laboratory (1 credit hour)

FALL 2004

Instructor: Dr. T. Dean Pringle

Laboratories meet on Tuesdays at 11:00 to 1:45 and 2:00 to 4:45 . Quizzes will be given in the first 15 minutes of laboratories and attendance in the lab your are enrolled in will be recorded. DRESS IN APPROPRIATE CLOTHING: JEANS, BOOTS OR HARD SOLED SHOES ARE PREFERRED (Shorts will often times NOT be appropriate for your safety).

Laboratory Grading:
Attendance will be monitored and will count as 15 % of the laboratory grade. Another 10 % of the laboratory grade will come from a grocery store survey that will be distributed Monday, August 20, 2004 and is due on Tuesday, August 24, 2004. Finally, 6 quizzes (15 points each) will be give at the times specified below and will count as 75 % of the laboratory grade (the lowest quiz grade will be dropped). Make-up quizzes will be given only in extreme circumstances, so please don't miss lab.

Directions to Labs:

Facilities for the Anatomy and Terminology, Animal Handling, Sheep, Beef , Swine, and first Horse laboratories are all located on South Milledge Ave:

  • As you travel on South Milledge away from Athens you will see the State Botanical Garden on your right, followed by the UGA Whitehall Beef Cattle Unit on your left, and the UGA Swine Unit on your right. As you continue to travel south on Milledge you will see the UGA Whitehall Feedlot on your right and immediately behind it is the brand new state-of-the-art ADSC Teaching Arena.

For the Cattle Reproduction and Dairy laboratories:

  • Go about 8 - 9 miles east on Highway 78 (towards Crawford/Lexington) and the UGA Dairy Center will be on your left (right after a curve where the east bound traffic has a passing lane).

For the second Horse laboratory:

  • Snyder Barn: Take College Station Road until it dead ends into Barnett Shoals and turn right onto Barnett Shoals Road. Travel about 1Ú2 to 3Ú4 of a mile and the Snyder Barn is on the right (immediately before the fire station entrance).
