Light Horse Evaluation and Selection

Course Objectives:
This course is designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively evaluate horses. Students will gain a broad understanding of judging conformation and performance in the horse. In addition to selection criteria, students will learn effective oral and written communication skills through defense of class placings. This course is considered an introduction to the UGA Horse Judging Team. Following this class students are encouraged to enroll in ADSC 3250 for further information in horse evaluation and an opportunity to compete on the horse judging team.

There is no required textbook for this course. However, the following sources are recommended for those seeking more information:

Lecture and Laboratory:
Lectures and labs will be held at the Livestock Instructional Arena on Milledge Ave., unless otherwise indicated. We will meet in the classroom of this facility. Please dress appropriately (long pants and closed toe shoes, preferably boots) for days when we will be working around live classes.

Grading:
Exam I - 15%
Exam II - 15%
Exam III - 15%
Final Exam - 20%
Attendance - 20%
Reasons - 5%
