Internship opportunities at Select Sires.

Select Sires Inc., Plain City, Ohio, is seeking two college students for internships at its headquarters facility for summer 2007, beginning in May or early June.

Internships are available in Corporate Communications and Dairy Sire Marketing. While juniors or seniors will be given preference, sophomores will be considered. Applicants must submit cover letters and resumes with references no later than November 24, 2006.

Internship opportunities announced.

1. FPL Foods, Augusta, GA. FPL foods is looking for interns to work in their meats facility. They are a company that harvests cows, fabricates cow carcasses and manufactures ground beef. If you were in ADSC 3650, Introductory Meat Science last Spring you got a tour. They have a variety of opportunities working in Quality Assurance, Operations, etc.

2. Shake-A-Rag. This is a fox hunting facility in Madison Co. that has opportunities to work with either the horses or the hounds that are part of the business. Immediate openings available.

Arena caretaker wanted. Successful applicant will reside in and care for the University of Georgia’s Livestock Instructional Arena. Tenant is expected to keep grounds mowed and borders trimmed, help with events, keep facility clean, and complete a nightly grounds check. Working on some weekends and holidays is expected. Tenant must keep apartment clean at all times and expect to have inspections once a month.

Applicant must be a student of the UGA College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences. Must be able to operate heavy machinery, lift at least 100 pounds, and have some farm experience. Also needs to have a willingness to complete tasks with efficiency and initiative. Needs to have a flexible schedule.

Salary: Hourly ~ $6.00/hour. Must complete 10 hours per week in exchange for apartment.

Two temporary Equine Inspector positions available. These positions are located at the Decatur Impound (Dekalb County) and the Mansfield Impound (Jasper County). Responsibilities include but are not limited to: feeding impounded horses; cleaning stalls and paddocks; and assisting barn manager in assorted tasks related to the well being of the impound horses. The work week for these positions will run Monday through Sunday but the daily hours will vary along with the days of the week. Salary is $9.00/hour.

Applicants will be screened for the following training and/or experience: completion of a high school diploma or the equivalent AND two years of experience in the care, treatment and feeding of horses. Applicant must be capable of lifting 50 pounds. Preference will be given to applicants, who, in addition to meeting the above qualifications, possess knowledge, skills and abilities in the following areas: completion of an Associate’s Degree in Animal Science; three years of experience in horse training, breeding, or equine facility management and related supervisory experience; working knowledge of Windows computer operating system and applications.

Equine positions available. Cedar Ridge Farm is seeking a full-time or two part-time property managers, including barn maintenance, as well as a part-time equine assistant. Positions provide numerous educational pportunities as well as the exposure of maintaining a rather extensive training facility in addition to the boarding operation. Many UGA students board their horses at the facility, which also supports the Equestrian team via a fundraiser and donation of horses. The farm is primarily focused on eventing, but has rotating instructors at the Olympic level in the 3-day, dressage, and show jumping, and belongs to a local fox hunt club. Contact:
